Land's End to John O'Groats 4 Lapford, Devon An exercise journey. I've managed a further 54k during the week, I've set off away from the coast and headed almost due East to arrive in the delightful village of Lapford in the county of Devon. I've headed this way because I want to pass through a village made infamous by the greatest rock band ever, yes folks, pretty soon I'll be passing through Black Dog. Lapford has been some sort of community since Celts gathered here in the 8th Century, it was mentioned in the Doomsday Book as having a population of around 150 in 1086. The village church is thought to have been built by William de Tracey as penance for his part in the murder of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Becket. There is a nice looking pub in the village called The Olde Malt Scoop Inn, this is a coaching inn dating back to the 16th Century, at one time it also became the home of the local undertaker and the original laying out table is now used for food service in the bar, there is a restaurant here and I can get a game of skittles in the pub's own alley afterwards. I'll probably stay B&B at Parsonage Farm, which advertises hearty breakfasts. If I was staying longer and bringing Mrs YS, we might stay in the delightful looking Honey Cottage. Total Distance Travelled = 174 kilometers Rowing 69k Walking 38k Running 15k X-training 12k Cycling 40k I'm ahead of the minimum distance I need to do each month ( 117k ), but I'm not quite sticking to the most direct route.
