Name: Yorkshire Soul
Location: Ilkley, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom

I've been to all sorts of nice places, home and abroad, I've met all manner of good folk, but I'm a child of the Dales, of the hills and streams, the moors and rocks, Yorkshire's in my soul.

Walking Yorkshire, Grimwith pt.2

Run for the hills, head for the caves.

Nature finds a way, this is underground in an area in which there is no natural light, but the illuminations for the caverns are swithed on for 8 hours a day and in the light spill from each lamp there is a thriving community of mosses.

The Butcher's Shop, well, if your butcher sells huge melting piles of lard anyway.

Sorry, I forgot what this part is called. I'll name the 'Rather disturbing Giger Gallery', everything involved with stalactites and stalagmites seems so disturbingly organic. I had a pleasant wander around the caves, only a couple of other folk down here with me, it is very narrow and you have to stoop quite a bit, I wouldn't fancy it if it was busy.

The bump on the right is Simon's Seat (078608), I've climbed up it a few times and have featured the view from the top in previous walking posts. This is looking across from Skyreholme Bank.

On the last leg of walk now, up Skyreholme Beck to the dry valley of Trollers Gill, the rock outcroppings on the right of the picture are called Old Man's Scar (070617).

Old Man's Scar again, can you see the face ?

At the bottom of Troller's Gill, Skyreholme Beck bubbles up out of the rocks, the Gill itself is dry, although it looks from the weeds on the rocks as if it might run when the stream is in torrent. It's a bit of a scramble up the Gill, back into the sun at the top end and then I've got to push on for the last mile and a half, time is getting on.

This walk was about 15 miles, it took roughly 6 hours including detours, caving and lunch. Map used was OS OL 2. Some of the places I went to, detailed in the first post, are off limits to the general public, I didn't have special permission to go there, I'm just cheeky.
