Guten Morgan Greetings from Germany, we're here in the throbbing metropolis of Gehweiler (population 37 people, 400 chickens and the biggest hare I've ever seen), local amenities include a pub, a bus stop (service runs alternate Thursdays in June) and 25 cigarette machines. The village next door has everything a German citizen could ask for, three pubs and kebab shop! It is very pleasent countryside, gently rolling, much like the lower Dales, everything is thickly forested, Saarland county is up to 90% covered in trees. Everywhere there are hunters hides in the trees, the area is good for deer, although they have remained mysteriously hidden so far. It took about 11 hours to get here, although only two in the air. We got stuck in Schipol airport for a while, brave British pilots got us there, but cowardly custard Dutch fliers wouldn't take off again. Schipol is a vast place with hundreds of aircraft on the ground, arriving at Luxembourg was a different experience again, it looks like a childs playset with about three aircraft and a tiny main building. Luxembourg is also a bit don't sneeze or you'll miss it, we turned out of the airport and whoosh, we're in Germany. Yesterday was spent in the delightful city of Trier, we saw many beautiful buildings, a harvest festival, a cathedral with the shroud of Christ (walled up away from tourists though), I can now report that the nickname of 'Sausage Eaters' does apply to the Germans, and bloody good sausages they were too, served from a butchers window, fresh grilled. At the harvest market I also tried first pressing wine, cloudy and sweet and only made in October, much nicer than the awful first run Beaujolais. (DSP - they also had a selection of livestock in cages, you could have had a whale, or a sheep of a time.) We have taken lots of photo's, beautiful views and very pretty architecture, I'll post them next week when we get back. Today we're going up the Mosel, wine tasting and dining by the river. Mrs YS fully expects to have to bring me home in a bucket! I'll report again later in the week, until then, auf wiedersehen.
